Let's appreciate ourselves.

Dear Friends,

I don't know if this qualifies as bragging, but right now I am especially proud to be a woman.

Across our country and the world, women are making their mark like never before. From science to grassroots activism to executive leadership, women's strength, resilience, and vision are not only challenging existing norms but are also redefining what real leadership looks like. And now it appears that a woman will be nominated by a major political party to run for President of the United States – the second woman ever, and the first Asian American or Black American woman! No matter what our political leanings, we can all appreciate the significance of this moment in history.

Let's also appreciate ourselves. Society has conditioned many of us to carry around a sense of "not enoughness" that casts a shadow on our feelings of self-worth. The truth is that our worth goes much deeper than the degree to which we achieve external standards or fulfill others' expectations. Our value is inherent in who we are -- wise, creative human beings with generous spirits. Every one of us was already more than enough on the day we were born.

I want to share a gift that Melinda French Gates created for other women in honor of her own 60th birthday, which is coming up on August 15th. At the link below, you'll find a series of conversations she recorded with women of all ages about their biggest life transitions. I think you'll see your own life in their stories. I hope you enjoy them.

I celebrate the remarkable power of Women's Connection members every day: your ability to inspire change, your unwavering strength, and your boundless potential. You are absolutely awesome and I am so honored to be your fellow traveler in 2024.

With deep respect and admiration,

Darla Hastings
