About this event

Thursday, July 23, 2026, 6:30 PM

Join a chocolate tasting where you will learn about the earliest uses of cacao, from its sacred role in ancient Maya and Mexica life to its remarkable journey across the ocean into European kitchens. Together we’ll taste five distinctive chocolates, explore how cacao was prepared, traded, and celebrated, and discover how this powerful seed shaped cultures long before it became the sweet treat we know today. It’s a warm, sensory experience designed for women who enjoy history, flavor, and good company.

We will be learning from one of our members, Nettie Atkisson.  She is an author and chocolate educator who leads hands-on cacao workshops for families, companies, and community groups. She trained with the International Institute of Chocolate and Cacao Tasting and completed a cacao masterclass in the Dominican Republic. Nettie teaches corporate tastings, speaks on chocolate history at festivals, and believes chocolate tastings create a low-pressure, welcoming way for people to connect.
