Join us for a July outing at the National Gallery of Art featuring
Little Beasts: Art, Wonder and the Natural World
. Art played a pivotal role during the dawn of European natural history in the 16th and 17th centuries. Advancements in scientific technology, trade, and colonial expansion allowed naturalists to study previously unknown and overlooked insects, animals, and other beestjes, or “little beasts.” Experience the wonder of nature through the eyes of artists. Look closely at art depicting insects and other animals alongside real specimens.
We'll meet at noon in the National Gallery Rotunda with the water fountain and statue of Mercury. Look for Mary with a Women's Connection sign. Then we'll head to Gallery 23 for
Little Beasts
. Take time to enjoy the exhibit and to view other galleries that interest you. Around 1:00, we'll head to the Cascade Cafe for coffee, gelato, sandwiches, etc. (

) Look for the table with the sign.
The Smithsonian FolkLife Festival will be ongoing on the National Mall. While it will complicate parking, it might also be something to add to your day after the museum.
