SFe (P)—Mass Waterfowl Migration Overnight Trip (Nov 22-23)

About this event

Please join chapter member Keri Durfee—on this members-only event— for a remarkable and memorable overnight guided tour of the  Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in Socorro County, New Mexico! Situated between the Chupadero Mountains and the San Pasqual Mountains is the 57,000 acre wildlife preserve. It is a critical stopover point for migrating birds. Be prepared to see thousands of Cranes, Snow Geese, ducks, bald eagles and so many other species of waterfowl as well!

We will depart from the De Vargas Mall at 9am on the 22nd. Walter Burke Catering will deliver our individualized box lunches at that time. We will drive approximately 2 hours to the Preserve, then enjoy lunch together outside of the Arboretum before we begin our guided tour.

Later we will arrive at the mass migration platform to view the birds gathering, feeding and roosting for the night. Afterward we will check into the hotel with dinner following at one of four delightful restaurants to choose from for dinner in Socorro!

Lodging is all taken care of at the Best Western of Soccorro, an 18 mile drive from the refuge. The group rate per room is $114.00. Each room—whether a shared 2-queen room or a private king room—has a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. A substantial, complimentary grab and go breakfast is included.

The next morning we will leave the hotel early, take our complimentary grab-and-go breakfast, and drive to the staging area. There we will witness thousands of waterfowl gathering to feed and taking off en mass for their morning migration south. This is an awe- inspiring event!

There is a maximum group of 12 terrific members for the most meaningful bonding experience! We will need 3 to four drivers. All passengers will pay their driver $25 to help defray the cost of gas and auto maintenance. It is essential to bring very warm clothing—coats, hats, gloves, waterproof boots! DO NOT FORGET YOUR CAMERAS! This is a truly memorable experience!

On a personal note, I have led groups of women on this adventure 4 times in 12 years. It would be my privilege to host this overnight trip for our Women’s Connection event!!

Specific details concerning the hotel and carpooling will be provided upon registration!

Please note: due to reservation deadlines, registration will close on November 8th!
